Skateparks, what a growing phenomena in the United States. Skateboarding has evolved over the years to become a serious sport amongst youth, with the first outdoor skatepark having been built in Florida in 1976, there are now skateparks found all across North America. Design and landscaping continues to become more sophisticated as riders and spectators expect more from skatepark designers. Like all outdoor sports, skateparks too require adequate shade structures and commercial canopies for their riders and spectators.

Owners of skateparks and designers and architects of skateparks, need to bear in mind to allow ample shade canopy clearance over the ramps sufficient to clear the highest reach of skaters.

Most skateparks have still not caught on to the option to provide a shade structure canopy for their participants and spectators, however, recently there is a growing trend and Architects are featuring a fabric awning as an integral part of their skatepark design.
